Summary

Chen Xi Jiu, the son of a fallen scholar, faced the disapproval of the wealthy Zhou family, who arranged his engagement to their daughter Maide. After a series of misfortunes, Zhou forced Maide into marriage with another man. Despite the separation, Xi Jiu clung to hope, but tragedy struck when he learned of his father's death.
